Terms of Service
These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of Briefed, the website at briefedlegalassistant.com and the associated commercial-awareness and interview-practice service (together, the "Service"). Briefed is operated by Conor Murphy, trading as Briefed ("Briefed", "we", "us", "our"). By creating an account or otherwise using the Service, you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.
1. What Briefed is
Briefed helps aspiring solicitors practise commercial awareness for training contract applications and interviews. It includes explainers ("Learn"), market reading ("Articles"), practice prompts with AI-generated feedback ("Questions"), firm profiles ("Firms"), and an onboarding questionnaire that suggests practice areas and firms based on your answers.
Briefed is an educational and practice tool. It is not legal advice, not careers or immigration advice, and does not guarantee any outcome, including that using Briefed will result in a training contract offer, an interview, or any particular grade or score. Content is written and reviewed by us to be accurate and current at the time of publication, but commercial, legal and regulatory developments move quickly, and we cannot guarantee that every explainer, article or answer reflects the latest position. You should treat Briefed as a practice aid, not a substitute for your own research, your university's careers service, or a firm's own recruitment materials.
2. AI-generated content
Question feedback, scores, model answer frameworks, Learn self-test questions, and CV-derived onboarding signals are generated using third-party AI models (currently Anthropic's Claude, and, only where the recording feature is enabled, OpenAI's transcription models). AI output can be incomplete, wrong, or phrased with more confidence than is warranted. Use your own judgement, and do not treat AI feedback as a definitive or professional assessment of your ability.
3. Eligibility and accounts
You must be at least 16 years old to create an account. If you are under 18, you confirm that you have a parent or guardian's permission to purchase a paid subscription. You agree to provide accurate registration information, to keep your password secure, and to be responsible for activity on your account. Accounts are personal to you and may not be shared or transferred. You may also sign in using a Google account; doing so is subject to Google's own terms in addition to these.
We may suspend or terminate an account that breaches these Terms, is used fraudulently, or is used to abuse or attack the Service.
4. Subscriptions and payment
Briefed offers a free tier with limited usage and a paid Premium subscription (billed monthly or yearly) with expanded access. Payments are processed by Stripe; we never see or store your card details. Prices are shown at checkout and may include applicable taxes.
Premium subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each billing period until you cancel. You can cancel at any time from your account's billing settings (via the Stripe customer portal); cancelling stops future renewals but does not refund the period you've already paid for. We do not offer refunds for partial subscription periods except where required by law.
Cancellation (cooling-off) rights. Under the Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013, UK consumers ordinarily have a 14-day right to cancel a distance contract for digital content or services. By subscribing to Premium, you ask us to give you immediate access to the paid features from the moment payment is confirmed, and you acknowledge that, once that access has started, you lose this 14-day cancellation right in respect of the digital service supplied. This does not affect any other rights you have by law, including your ongoing right to cancel future renewals at any time as described above.
If we change subscription pricing, we will give notice before it applies to your next renewal; continuing your subscription after that point means you accept the new price.
5. Acceptable use
When using the Service, you agree not to:
- scrape, reverse engineer, or systematically extract Briefed's content or underlying question bank;
- share, resell, or provide access to your account or paid content to anyone else;
- upload or submit unlawful, infringing, or harmful content (including a CV or onboarding answers that contain someone else's personal data without their permission);
- attempt to manipulate, "jailbreak", or extract the underlying prompts or instructions behind the AI features; or
- use the Service in any way that breaches applicable law or infringes anyone else's rights.
6. Your content
You retain ownership of the answers, CV, and onboarding responses you submit ("your content"). By submitting it, you grant us a licence to use it to operate and improve the Service, for example to generate AI feedback, store your attempt history and progress, and derive the structured signals used by onboarding. You confirm you have the right to submit your content (for example, that a CV you upload is your own). A CV or pasted CV text is read to extract structured signals and then discarded. We do not retain the raw file or text; see our Privacy Policy for detail.
7. Our content and intellectual property
Briefed's explainers, questions, model answers, articles, firm profiles, design and branding are owned by us or licensed to us and are protected by copyright and other intellectual property laws. While you hold an account, we grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to access and use this content for your own interview preparation. You may not copy, republish, or redistribute it, or use it to build a competing product.
8. Third-party links
Articles and Firms content may link to external sources such as law firm press releases, news coverage, and similar material. We are not responsible for the content, accuracy, or availability of third-party sites, and linking to them is not an endorsement.
9. Disclaimers
The Service is provided "as is" and "as available". To the fullest extent permitted by law, we exclude all implied warranties, including as to uninterrupted or error-free operation, and we do not guarantee that any content, including AI-generated feedback or fast-moving commercial and legal information, is complete, current, or free from error.
10. Limitation of liability
Nothing in these Terms limits or excludes our liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for any other liability that cannot lawfully be limited or excluded under English law.
Subject to that, to the fullest extent permitted by law: (a) we are not liable for any indirect or consequential loss, or for loss of opportunity (including missed interviews or applications); and (b) our total liability to you for any claim arising out of or relating to the Service is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim arose.
11. Termination
You may stop using the Service and close your account at any time by contacting us at support@briefedlegalassistant.com. We may suspend or terminate your access for breach of these Terms, non-payment, or to protect the Service or other users. Sections of these Terms that by their nature should survive termination (including intellectual property, disclaimers, and limitation of liability) will continue to apply.
12. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time, for example to reflect changes to the Service or to legal requirements. We'll update the effective date above, and where a change is material, we'll make reasonable efforts to notify you (for example by email or in-app notice). Continuing to use the Service after a change takes effect means you accept the updated Terms.
13. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have non-exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute. This means that if you live elsewhere in the UK or abroad, you may still be able to bring a claim in your local courts under any mandatory consumer protections that apply to you.
